Who We Are

Community Church of Providence is a place where you are free to bring your authentic self.

Welcome to Community Church of Providence

You Belong Here

Community Church of Providence is a place where you are free to bring your authentic self. Like the city of Providence, we are a global community and a close knit one.

Diverse in ethnicity, backgrounds, family structure, worship styles and theology, we come together to follow Jesus and form deep and caring relationships, creating a space for community to grow and finding partners with whom to serve the larger world.

Our worship is friendly and casual, but reverent, with an eclectic blend of musical styles, interactive time for children, and engaging preaching. Rooted in the historic idea of “soul freedom,” we honor and celebrate the story of each person. We would love to hear yours!

Love is our tradition.

In faithfulness to Jesus and the commandments to love God and love our neighbors as ourselves, we embrace and respect all people. Whoever you are, wherever you are on life’s journey, as God’s beloved, you are worthy and welcome.

The Mission of Community.

Through faith in God’s love for us, we from all backgrounds come to community in Christ, encouraged by each other to seek spiritual growth, returning God’s love by sharing it with all.

The Vision of Community.

To follow Jesus with our whole hearts and lives. To embody the meaning of sanctuary, in which all people can experience the embrace of God’s love.
To reach out in service to those in need, both near and far.
To be a hub for positive community activity and a resource for neighbors

A Covenant of Kindness

Here at CCOP, we endeavor to create a space where every person is valued, a place where God’s infinite love and welcome are embodied.
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility,
gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against
someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together
in perfect unity. Colossians 3:12-14
To create a space where everyone is seen, heard and celebrated, we will:
  • Listen and speak with sensitivity and understanding.
  • Engage in open, honest and graceful conversation.
  • Respect each other’s faith journeys.

To build a culture of trust, we will:
  • Not speak hurtful words about or belittle others.
  • Go directly to others for understanding and reconciliation.
  • Forgive and accept forgiveness.
  • Be open to change, growth and compromise.
To cultivate belonging, we will:
  • Honor our diverse cultures.
  • Discover everyone’s talents and gifts.
  • Encourage the quietest voices to be heard.
  • Integrate those with differing abilities.
  • Embrace the oldest and the youngest.

To value relationships, we will:
  • Help and accept help.
  • Pray for one another.
  • Celebrate in times of joy and console in times of sorrow.
  • Cultivate friendships with each other.

No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us, and his love is perfected in us. 1 John 4:12
